Bangui, May 2026 — Share Hope Worldwide (SHW), with the support of UN Women/WPHF and under the leadership of the Ministry of Gender, Women's Empowerment, Family, and Child Protection, organized a workshop from May 20 to 22, 2026, in Bangui dedicated to planning gender priorities. The objective was to strengthen SHW's institutional capacities and lay the groundwork for a strategic advocacy plan for women and girls in the Central African Republic.
A total of 30 participants, including 17 women and 13 men, took part in the proceedings. They represented SHW, civil society, United Nations agencies, international NGOs, the Ministry of Gender, as well as associations of women, young mothers, persons with disabilities, legal professionals, and media.
The opening ceremony, chaired by the UN Women Representative in the Central African Republic and the Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Gender, emphasized the importance of this initiative in promoting gender equality, women's empowerment, and their participation in peace and security processes.
Over three days, discussions focused on several major issues: prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse, gender-based violence, the Women, Peace and Security agenda, and the effects of climate change on rural women. These discussions helped identify action priorities adapted to the Central African context.
Group work strengthened coordination between institutional actors, civil society, and technical partners. They resulted in a shared list of priority activities, intended to inform the finalization of SHW's strategic and advocacy plan.
Among the key sessions, a briefing on the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse, led by the National Coordinator of the PSEA Network CAR/OCHA, emphasized safe, accessible, and confidential reporting mechanisms. Another session, facilitated by UN Women, explored the links between gender, peace, security, and gender-based violence, with reference to UN Security Council Resolution 1325.
The Ministry of Gender also shared experiences on gender-based violence and led an activity prioritization exercise. UNICEF presented the effects of climate change on rural women, along with strategies to strengthen their resilience.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the capacities of 30 stakeholders were strengthened on gender issues. A list of priority activities was developed, while a strategic and advocacy plan is being finalized with the Ministry of Gender.
This document will help SHW consolidate its advocacy with technical and financial partners and strengthen its resource mobilization in support of initiatives for Central African women and girls.
For SHW, this initiative marks an important step in strengthening its institutional and programmatic positioning. It contributes to reducing inequalities, supporting the empowerment of women and girls, and better integrating their needs into development policies, programs, and projects.
Despite some organizational constraints, the set objectives were achieved. Work now continues to finalize the strategic and advocacy plan and submit it for validation by the Ministry of Gender.
Beyond the planning exercise, the workshop opens a new chapter for SHW and its partners: one of more structured advocacy, capable of transforming the identified priorities into concrete actions for the benefit of women and girls in the Central African Republic.
